With 23 years of service under her belt, Gainesville police dispatcher and records clerk Linda Kerr was honored at a retirement party Friday by the department she served.
In a presentation to Kerr, Gainesville Police Chief Steven Fleming spoke highly of Kerr and presented a memento to her for her many years of service.
Fleming said, “Linda is one of the most dedicated people I know. She never called in sick but when she came in sick we would have to make her go home.”
He continued, “She was a loyal friend to all of her co-workers and went above and beyond in what ever capacity she served.”
Former chief of police Carl Dunlap was also on hand for the presentation as he had worked with Kerr for several years prior to his own retirement in 2007.
Mayor pro tem Ray Nichols attended the ceremony honoring Kerr as did several members of the Gainesville police and fire departments and other friends and family.
Kerr plans to retire to her home in Marietta, Oklahoma and enjoy a more leisurely pace.
She said, “I won’t miss the drive from Marietta but I will definitely miss all the friends and co-workers here in Gainesville. I love them all.”
