Gainesville —
Gainesville Middle School student Reece Holt was recently awarded for his win in a county-wide "Patriot's Pen" essay contest.
The contest’s theme for this year was “What I Would Tell America's Founding Fathers.” Holt was not only chosen out of 28 of his Gainesville Middle School peers, but from all writers through the county who entered the contest.
The contest is coordinated through the local Veterans of Foreign Wars Hugh-Tune Post 1922. Junior Vice-Commander Melanie Kretzschmar and husband Commander Dennis Kretzschmar were on hand for the recent award ceremony in the Gainesville Middle School auditorium. Holt’s entry will now advance to a regional contest.
The grand prize is a $10,000 savings bond at this national level. To read Holt’s essay, visit www.gainesvilleisd.org and scroll to “Headlines.” Gainesville Middle School had the largest number of essay contest participants in the area, and all of their students received a participation certificate.
