Gainesville —
Knights of Columbus District Deputy John Shiffer recently presented a check from the local Knights of Columbus councils from Gainesville, Lindsay, Muenster and Monclay — and a matching check from The Knights of Columbus Supreme Council of Connecticut — to cover the cost of replacing ultrasound equipment for Cooke County’s All Babies Born Alive (ABBA) agency.
The new equipment was ordered by ABBA Executive Director Sandee Feyereisen on Tuesday, and the equipment is schedule for delivery in mid-January.
ABBA is expected to exceed 7,000 client visits for assistance to their office in Gainesville by the end of the year. The new statistics may exceed a statistical record set by the number one pregnancy resource center in Texas for 2011. Currently ABBA ranks third in the state for client visits and first in educational classes among pro-life pregnancy resource centers. The Knights of Columbus Supreme Council of Connectitcut provides grants for ultrasound equipment for pro-life centers and Texas ranks as the number one state to receive their grants.
ABBA is a nonprofit community service organization providing their services free of charge for pregnancy testing, ultrasounds, pregnancy materials assistance and educational classes. ABBA also provides vouchers for familes in need to shop in their Second Chance Resale Store.
A coat drive to provide warm winter coats to those in need is currently underway sponsored by The Dry Clean Super Center located on California Street in Gainesville which is under the direction of Dave Hampton. ABBA is located at 214 N. Taylor St.
A community Christmas drive for new baby items is also underway at ABBA for those who would like to donate newborn clothing, toiletries, blankets and quilts, disposable diapers, baby wipes or maternity clothing. And the public is reminded to drop items off by ABBA’s community Christmas tree at the ABBA office from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday through Dec. 17, and again through the month of January 2013 to commemorate “The Sanctity of Human Life Month.”
