Gainesville —
North Texas Medical Center in Gainesville honored its Director and
Employee of the Year during the organization’s annual Employee
Recognition Banquet May 15.
Chosen as Director of the Year was Audi Hayes, RN, BSN, Acute
Inpatient Care Director. .She was presented the award by (from left)
Director of Human Resources Teresa Westover, Chief Executive Officer
Randy Bacus and Hospital Board President Gloria Parrish. Audi has
been an employee of the Gainesville Hospital District for 34 years,
and this is the second time she has won the Director of the Year Award
since it was established in 2006. Audi currently oversees all nursing
areas within the hospital, as well as the respiratory therapy
department and cardiac/pulmonary rehab.
Chosen as Employee of the Year was Susan Whitley, RN. Susan was the
CARE Award Winner for the 4th Quarter of 2011, at which time she was
cited for outstanding performance in her new position as Women’s
Center Coordinator. Susan has been a member of the NTMC family since
September 2004. She was presented her award by Westover, Bacus and
Parrish. Other employees up for the Employee of the Year honors
included Valissa Rhoads, RN, and Donna Terrill, RN.
NTMC’s Chief of Nursing Tonya Price said she was thrilled and
overwhelmed that two of her nursing staff had received top honors. “
I am so proud and honored to have two wonderful nurses, and people,
chosen as Employee and Director of the Year,” said Price. “I am
overjoyed by the entire nursing department’s commitment to and caring
attitude toward our patients at North Texas Medical Center.“

Texas adds more than 33K new jobs in April
Texas’ seasonally adjusted total nonfarm employment expanded by 33,100 jobs in April. Texas added 326,100 jobs from April 2012 to April 2013. The state’s annual growth rate in April stood at 3.0 percent, and has been above 2.5 percent since the beginning of 2012. Texas’ seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was unchanged in April at 6.4 percent. It remains well below the nation’s April unemployment rate of 7.5 percent.

National Transportation Safety Board considers lowering blood alcohol levels for drivers
Members of Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) have announced new recommendations in their continued quest to end drunk driving.
During the upcoming Memorial Day weekend, alcohol is a common theme in many celebratory activities throughout the nation and state, and, therefore, many Texans unnecessarily die in vehicular accidents involving alcohol-impaired drivers.
This past week, National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) officials announced several new recommendations relating to drunk driving, including lowering the national blood alcohol content (BAC) standard from .08 to .05. -
