North Texas Medical Center in Gainesville is known for its unique fundraisers and activities in support of Cooke County United Way. From ‘Kiss the Pig’ competitions to head shaving to sno-cones, NTMC employees have gone above and beyond to support the local agencies funded by United Way.
This year is no different as the hospital brings back its popular Gift Basket Raffle the week of Aug. 19-23. Gifts baskets of all varieties, shapes and sizes will be available for viewing in the front lobby of NTMC, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday. Tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5. Winning tickets will be drawn at 2 p.m. Friday.
The baskets, created by various departments across the hospital, usually contain hundreds of dollars worth of goodies.
“These baskets are very unique, usually very large and loaded for fun,” said NTMC Director of Human Resources Teresa Westover, co-chair for this year’s NTMC campaign. “There is a gift basket themed for everyone. The public is encouraged to come out and participate in this great annual event.”
Included among this year’s basket themes are: Steak – It’s What’s for Dinner, Stay-cation, Back to School, On The Road Again, Bling, Pamper Me, Full Deck and Let’s Snuggle, among others.
The hospital will wrap up Great Gift Basket Week with a Gourmet Burger Lunch, scheduled for 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23. This year, guests will be offered delicious gourmet burgers, featuring 8 ounces of beef, a selection of five different types of cheeses and buns, sauces and veggies. Your choice of onion rings or French fries, drink and dessert round out your plate for $8. All proceeds will be donated to United Way.
“We have traditionally had businesses and professional offices place orders for their entire staff and pick up as take-out,” explained Ann Marie Harp, chairman of the NTMC Activities Committee, which is spearheading the campaign with Westover. “We have also had businesses rotate their staff to attend the lunch and eat at the NTMC Café.” Call-in orders will be accepted until 10 a.m. Call (940) 612-8611.
The final event of the NTMC Pacesetter Campaign is another returning favorite, now in its third year.
The “Taste of NTMC” is scheduled Friday, Aug. 30, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the NTMC Board Room.
This year, the public is invited to load their lunch plates with culinary offerings from some of the region’s most recognizable restaurants, as the NTMC staff takes inspiration from restaurants including Abuela’s, Lady and Sons, Rohmers, Cheesecake Factory, McAlister’s Deli, Olive Garden, Cracker Barrel, Maya Del Sol and Chili’s.
A minimum donation of $8 will get you a container to fill, tea or water and a cool place to sit in the NTMC Café. Participants are urged to arrive early, because when the food is gone, we will be too.
Diners will help choose the winning Taste team through their donations in “tip jars.” Stations will be judged on presentation and quality of food.
