A fatal vehicle crash Sunday night near Valley View reportedly resulted in the death of a 14-year-old passenger.
Mark Tackett of the Department of Public Safety reported that shortly before 9:30 p.m. Sunday, Dallas resident Joab Sanchez Felipe, 37, was driving his 1996 Ford sport utility vehicle south on Interstate 35 when the vehicle’s rear tire came apart.
The vehicle veered off the west side of 35 and rolled down a steep embankment, causing a crash near the interstate’s mile marker 487.
The driver, who was not wearing a safety belt, was transported to Parkland Hospital in critical condition. The front seat passenger, Joab Sanchez Felipe, 14, who was also not wearing his seat belt, had been partially ejected from the vehicle. He was transported to Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital of Denton and later pronounced dead.
Tackett reported that the vehicle’s backseat passenger, Amizaraea Felipe, 12, was also not secured by a safety belt and was seriously injured. She was transported to Children’s Hospital of Dallas in critical condition.
Other details of Sunday’s crash are currently under investigation.
