Gainesville —
Representatives of a newly formed company visited the Boys and Girls Club of Cooke County on Friday and presented more than 200 “all American” toys to young club members.
Gainesville Mayor Jim Goldsworthy was on hand during this toy delivery made possible by Demand American, a Dallas manufacturing company that launched in early December and operates with the intent of creating, building and distributing all of its products entirely within United States borders.
“How cool is it to present toys made in the USA — therefore creating American employment opportunities — and share them with American children,” said company co-founder John Waghorne.
Friday’s Boys and Girls Club visit was one of the company’s first benefit functions. Goldsworthy said he was impressed by the range of donated toys, which included airplanes and stuffed animals and was broad enough in variety to satisfy the club members of many ages.
“It was a very, very generous gift from the Demand American group,” he said. “I know the young people at the Boys and Girls Club were excited and appreciated them thinking of the Boys and Girls Club for the donation.”
Goldsworthy added that the visit was well-timed, since it came during the club’s annual gift giveaway and the participating children were able to leave with extra toys that were also newly manufactured by Demand American.
The company’s purpose, Goldsworthy said, fits his own assertion that it’s always best to buy and shop local.
“The same thing holds true on a national basis,” he said. “The more we can buy from American companies, the better off a nation is, just as when people in a city choose to buy local.”
