4-H members plan car wash to help build memorial playground

Lindsay — The Lindsay 4-H club is sponsoring a car wash-bake sale fundraiser for the Truman Lee Scott Memorial Playground on April 20 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the First State Bank on U.S. Highway 82 in Gainesville.

Truman was three years old when he died in a tragic accident in Forestburg last year.

Truman, the son of Tim and Tiffany Scott, would have turned four on May 7 and loved to play outdoors.

The group hopes to raise $9,000 by May 7 for the first phase of the playground that is planned to be built at the First Baptist Church in Forestburg.

Orange was Truman’s favorite color and another event scheduled includes a 5K All Orange Fun Run scheduled on his birthday. Suggested entry fee is a $10 donation. All sponsors will get a place on the runners’ T-shirts and company names on the playground plaque.

“The family hopes that something good will come out of this tragedy and the memorial playground is something that children will be able to enjoy and appreciate the efforts of the Lindsay 4-H Club,” said spokesperson Marsha Dill.

The 4-H Clubs in this area work to find projects to better their community, she explained. The four H’s in a 4-H group stands for Head, Hands, Heart, and Health. The Head is about clear thinking. The Heart regards loyalty and caring. The Hands are for giving and working in service to others. Health is for better living.

“Tim and Tiffany are expecting a baby girl later this year and have decided to name her Trulee in Truman’s memory,” Dill added.

Dill also said donations can be sent to The Truman Lee Scott Memorial, Forestburg Baptist Church, PO Box 358, Forestburg, Texas 76239 or contact Kate Kimbley at 940-366-2641.
