El Reno, Okla. — The North Central Texas College Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) Western team reached a monumental accomplishment Saturday at the IHSA Western Competition hosted by Redlands Community College in El Reno, Okla.

NCTC received a high point team award and was named Grand Champion for the first time since the reformation of the team in 2003. The team bested five other schools including Texas Tech University and West Texas A&M University.

After finishing one point behind West Texas A&M and being named Reserve High Point team on Friday, NCTC rallied for the history-making team win on Saturday.

“They say that ‘it takes a village to raise a child.’ Well that sentiment can be altered to acknowledge how this win was possible,” NCTC equestrian coach Bill Kaven said. “The entire Ag department worked as a team and a special thank you goes out to all NCTC administrators, staff andfaculty that contribute in their own way to make having an equestrian team possible.”

Agriculture department chairman Steve Keith said this win will help bring more recognition to North Central Texas College.

“This win was a stepping-stone goal as we strive for NCTC to be recognized as a division powerhouse and ultimately being a national team contender,” he said.
