Showcase features jazz, art

Thursday’s “Artist Showcase” at Butterfield Stage boasted the vocals of Metroplex jazz singer Jennifer Martin, who began her professional music career in New York City performing in many clubs before pursuing a career in Canada. She later returned to the United States to perform in piano bars and jazz clubs, putting her style on the jazz standards as well as her originals. And Thursday’s featured artist was Clyda Fay Hall, whose work features an impressionistic take on nature.

  • Lions Club golf tournament raises funds for programs

    The 2014 Lions Club golf tournament held July 19 netted $6,031 as reported at the Wednesday meeting. The local nonprofit organization uses the funds to assist in community programs for the year including assisting those who have vision challenges.

    When the Callisburg Elementary school bell rings on the first day of school this year, veteran teacher Carol Flint will be enjoying her first day of retirement after 33 years of teaching in the North Texas public schools. Prior to her announced retirement in June, Flint received one more accolade when she was honored as Callisburg Teacher of the Year.
