CALLISBURG — A Callisburg Independent School District bus involved in an accident on FM 678 and Highway 82 Tuesday burst into flames as it careened off the road.
Texas Department of Public Safety trooper Mike Linnell said it appeared that the bus driver lost control while attempting to avoid a collision with a white Camaro and traveled off the road down the south side of the overpass. Linnell said the accident is still under investigation.
No children were on the bus at the time.
Linnell said the driver appeared to be OK but was taken to an area hospital emergency for observation as was the driver of the Camaro who sustained injuries.
Callisburg ISD superintendent Steve Clugston was on hand to assess the damage.
“Despite the seriousness of the accident, we are just glad that lives were not lost today and we pray for complete healing of the drivers involved,” Clugston said.
The Oak Ridge Volunteer Fire Department was on hand to put out the blaze and provide emergency assistance.
