Gainesville — Several Gainesville High School students had top place finishes at the Ryan High School academic meet on Saturday.

Sophomores Mark Clark and Alexander “Alex” Huerta lead the leap of GHS leopards competing.

Clark took first place in Prose Interpretation of “Fight Club” for the second time this year, while Huerta brought home three different awards. Huerta finished third in social studies, fourth in mathematics, and fifth in number sense.

“Both of those guys have been doing well at other meets this year,” Gainesville Independent School District academic director, Craig Hertel said. “And they continued their success this week.”

In persuasive speaking, sophomore Allison “Alley” McCollum brought home second place and freshman Bailey Sharp finished seventh.

In informative speaking, freshman Jordan Moore received fourth place and Dalia Al-Ansi placed fifth.

Also, GHS finished second place as a team in the Speech Sweepstakes.

The academic group will be traveling to meets on Feb. 18 in Valley View and Feb. 25 in Lindsay.
