Sivells Bend second graders watch as a newly emerged monarch butterfly dries its wings and is released. The students are in Trina Martin’s class. The class raised butterflies as a school project.

    The 2014 Lions Club golf tournament held July 19 netted $6,031 as reported at the Wednesday meeting. The local nonprofit organization uses the funds to assist in community programs for the year including assisting those who have vision challenges.

    When the Callisburg Elementary school bell rings on the first day of school this year, veteran teacher Carol Flint will be enjoying her first day of retirement after 33 years of teaching in the North Texas public schools. Prior to her announced retirement in June, Flint received one more accolade when she was honored as Callisburg Teacher of the Year.
