Gainesville — The Gainesville Independent School District Education Foundation is operating in conjunction with Dallas Athletes Racing and Depot Days organizers to conduct the annual “Disco Fun Run” on Sunday.

The run helps benefit scholarship and grant opportunities for current students in Gainesville ISD through the district’s education foundation.  This Sunday's race will have five-mile and 10-mile formats, and this year's route will run through historic south Gainesville.

The public is encouraged to line the yards and streets in this location of town and encourage the runners.  The Gainesville High School Jazz Band will be performing on Denton Street Sunday morning in support of the runners, and several groups of current Gainesville ISD faculty members will participate either by running or cheering on the participants.

Registration for runners will be available all the way up until the start time of the race. More information is available online at www.gainesvilleisd.org, under “Headlines.” The 10-mile run is slated to begin downtown at 8 a.m. and the five-mile run begins at 8:15 a.m.

The education foundation funds scholarships for children of Gainesville High School alumni as well as roughly $16,000 in grants each year for Gainesville ISD programs.  The programs are always carefully conceived and intended to be challenging for the participating students.
