— Staff report
A major overhaul at the intersection of Gainesville’s Broadway and Dixon streets will create downtown detours for the next several weeks.
As part of the city’s Street and Utility Maintenance Program (SUMP), crews will shut down that intersection and replace the roadway.
“They’re taking all of the brick out of the intersection and laying a concrete foundation for the street,” said City Manager Barry Sullivan. “And then they’ll put the bricks back in the intersection, on top of the concrete foundation.
Sullivan said this work will conclude “package C” of the SUMP project, with officials expected to hire contractors during the next month for packages D, E and F.
“We keep pushing to get those improvements made,” he said Tuesday.
