'Cowboys for CASA' fundraiser set to rock Friday

Gainesville — CASA of North Texas is set to host its 8th annual Cowboys for CASA fundraiser.  The evening will kick off at 6 p.m. with a mixer followed by barbeque for dinner and silent and live auctions and a concert by country singer, Sonny Burgess and his band.  

A handful of tickets remain available at $25 per person. They may be purchased at First State Bank, American Bank of Texas and at the CASA office located at 309 S. Commerce St. in Gainesville.

There will be a drawing for the winner of VISA check cards in the amount of $2000, $500 and $200.  Tickets for a chance to win are $10 each/ 3 for $25 or 15 for $100.   

CASA, which stand for Court Appointed Special Advocates, is a non-profit agency which recruits, trains, supervises and gives support to a network of volunteers who act as advocates for the best interests of children who have been removed from their homes because of neglect and/or abuse.

  • Texas adds more than 33K new jobs in April

    Texas’ seasonally adjusted total nonfarm employment expanded by 33,100 jobs in April. Texas added 326,100 jobs from April 2012 to April 2013. The state’s annual growth rate in April stood at 3.0 percent, and has been above 2.5 percent since the beginning of 2012. Texas’ seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was unchanged in April at 6.4 percent. It remains well below the nation’s April unemployment rate of 7.5 percent.
