Writing a letter to Santa Claus has been a tradition during the holidays for generations and the United States Postal Service has been receiving letters from children addressed to Santa for more than 100 years. The postal service’s involvement was made official in 1912, when postal employees were authorized to respond to letters in the program known as “Operation Santa.”
The Gainesville Post Office now participates in a “Letters to Santa” program. In appreciation to our loyal customers and in the spirit of the season, our “Letters to Santa” program provides an opportunity for your child to send their letter directly to the North Pole by offering a mail box in the lobby. The young participants can receive a response letter from Santa by including a self-addressed, stamped envelope. This letter will be delivered to the residence.
