Two suspects sought in Family Dollar robbery

Staff report

Two suspects reportedly fled the Family Dollar store without taking any money after an armed robbery attempt Saturday night.

Gainesville Police Public Information officer Belva McClinton said two suspects entered the store around 7:45 and wandered around for a bit before making their move.

“(The second suspect) approached the counter and demanded (an employee) open the register and give him the money. (The first suspect) then approached the counter and displayed a firearm,” McClinton said.

The first employee reportedly could not open the cash register.

“The employee told them the register was locked by another employee and that she could not open it,” McClinton noted.

The employee then told the suspects she would get the code from another employee, before picking up a phone and heading for the back of the store.

When she encountered her co-worker, the first employee told the woman she was being robbed.

At that point, the two suspects fled the store without taking any money, McClinton said.

“The suspects had already left the scene when officers arrived,” she added.

The first suspect is described as a Hispanic male, between 5’2” – 5’4”, with a thin build, brown hair and brown eyes. He was reportedly wearing a gray hoodie and baggie blue jeans.

The second suspect is also a Hispanic male between 5’2” – 5’4”. He was a heavy set individual with a full round face, bushy eye brows, brown hair and brown eyes. He was wearing a dark brown bomber pilot style jacket and baggie blue jeans.

The Family Dollar store is located in the Gainesville Shopping Center in the 1000 block of East Highway 82.
