Local cities continued to take a hit as far as state sales tax revenue in Cooke County in the 2009 calendar year compared to the revenue received throughout the 2008 calendar year.
Susan Combs, Texas Comptroller, released the December sales tax payments and the information can be reviewed at www.window.state.tx.us.taxinfor/allocsum/compsum.
Combs reported that the city of Gainesville sales tax payments totaled $5,271,360.58 for the 2009 calendar year while the payments were $7,393,123.72 in 2008. That is a 28.69 percent decrease in revenue for the city of Gainesville.
Combs’ report showed that the city of Muenster was second in line for the largest decrease in sales tax payments. The total for the 2009 calendar year was $335,507.34. The total for 2008 was $388,260.75. That is a loss of 13.58 percent in revenue for the city of Muenster.
Combs also reported the sales tax payments for Lindsay at $100,428.05 for 2009, compared to $104,675 in 2008. That is a 4.06 percent decrease in revenue for the city of Lindsay.
Sales tax payments for Oak Ridge totaled $75,699.90 for 2009 compared to $80,768.04 in 2008. That is a 6.28 percent decrease in revenue for the city of Oak Ridge.
The city of Valley View was the only local city to see an increase in their sales tax payments for 2009 calendar year, coming in with a total of $95,551.65. That is a 1.3 percent increase in revenue for Valley View. Valley View’s 2008 sales tax payments came in at $94,287.62.
Cooke County’s 2009 calendar year total for sales tax payments were $2,121,051. Total payments for 2008 were at $2,857,732.84. That amounts to a 25 percent decrease in revenue for Cooke County.
