Candidate filing ends Friday

Cooke County — Potential candidates in local city and hospital, school and college board elections set for May 11 have until Friday to file, and unregistered voters have until April 11 to register to participate in those elections.

City

Current Gainesville City Council board candidates include incumbent Jim Goldsworthy for mayor; incumbent Ken Keeler for Ward 4; incumbent Keith Clegg for Ward 3; incumbent Beverly Snuggs for Ward 2; and incumbent Carolyn Hendricks for Ward 1. Incoming candidates can file at 200 S. Rusk St. in Gainesville.

Current Muenster City Council board candidates include incumbent Tim Felderhoff for Place 3 and incumbent Jack Flusche for Place 5. Incoming candidates can file at 400 N. Main St. in Muenster.

Current Whitesboro City Council board candidates include Barry Keller and incumbents Mike Pack and Dayton Hawkins for three at-large seats and incumbent W.D. Welch for mayor. Incoming candidates can file at 111 W. Main St. in Whitesboro.

School

Current Gainesville Independent School District board candidates include Kent Sharp for Place 6 and Corey Hardin and Larry Don Hennesy for Place 7. Incoming candidates can file at 800 S. Morris St. in Gainesville.

Current Whitesboro Independent School District board candidates include Lauren Hartless and incumbents T.R. Fletcher and Gregg Hickman for two at-large seats. Incoming candidates can file at 115 Fourth St. in Whitesboro.

Current Lindsay Independent School District board candidates include Eddie Hughes and incumbents Jim Ott and Jill Fuhrmann for two at-large seats. Incoming candidates can file at 500 W. 6th St. in Lindsay.

Hospital

Current North Texas Medical Center board candidates include incumbent Robbie Baugh for one of three at-large seats. Incoming candidates can file at 1900 Hospital Boulevard in Gainesville.

Current Muenster Memorial Hospital board candidates include incumbents John Aytes, James Walterscheid and T.J. Walterscheid for three at-large seats. Incoming candidates can file at 605 N. Maple St. in Muenster.

College

Current North Central Texas College board candidates include Matt Chalmers for Place 2 and incumbent Christy Morris for Place 1. Incoming candidates can file at Room 102 of 1525 W. California St. in Gainesville.

Special elections

A local option election will allow voters to choose “yes” or “no” regarding sale of alcoholic beverages in Cooke County’s Justice of the Peace Precinct 4, an area that encompasses portions of Valley View, Era, Muenster and Lake Kiowa.

Valley View ISD residents can choose “yes” or “no” regarding a $12 million bond that will upgrade athletic and academic facilities at the Valley View campus, along with upgraded security and parking features.

Whitesboro ISD resident can choose “yes” or “no” regarding a $10.7 million bond that will upgrade security and technology at the Whitesboro campus, along with facility repairs.
