In a new media release, representatives of Cooke County United Way (CCUW) said they are confident that the 2012 fundraising goal of $398,000 will be achieved through the recent and future efforts of the campaign volunteers, partnered “Pacesetter” companies, the good works of the agencies, the generosity of local businesses and donations from the public. Throughout the county, volunteers are still making phone calls and collecting pledge cards as well as donations for the Cooke County United Way campaign. The campaign officially began Aug. 1, and will conclude Nov. 8, with a celebration luncheon. Between those two points, several events have already been held in promotion of the campaign.
All area chambers held “after hours” mixers highlighting CCUW, providing an opportunity for chamber members to meet staff and volunteers from the United Way agencies. Gainesville's chamber mixer was held at North Texas Medical Center (NTMC), Muenster's chamber mixer was held at the Cooke County Electric Cooperative and the Valley View chamber mixer was held by the chamber members on the square.
Several area businesses are still conducting special promotional opportunities in efforts to assist in raising funds for CCUW. Representatives of Mom's Donuts on North Grand Avenue will sponsor their annual “Donut Holes for United Way” beginning Oct. 18 through Oct. 27, as well as an United Way coloring sheet promotional. Dry Clean Super Center on East California Street has collection jars displayed on business counters and owner Dave Hampton will match all funds collected.
The NTMC employee campaign also includes their annual gift basket raffle which will be held on Oct. 17 in the hospital lobby and is open to the public.
Recent events also included the “Healthy, Happy and Whole Health Fair” with proceeds benefitting United Way. In September, CCUW held its first annual “Power of the Purse” event which benefitted both the campaign through luncheon ticket sales and the United Way Youth Council through the purse gift basket ticket sales.
The Cooke County Youth Council is also selling tickets to a pancake buffet at Applebee's on I-35 North in Gainesville Saturday, Oct. 27. Patrons will be required to pre-purchase the $8 tickets and there will be no tickets sold at the door. The tickets are available through the Youth Council members and the United Way offices. All proceeds from this event will be designated to the Youth Council who will be adopting special community projects benefitting Cooke County.
The release added that last week, dozens of volunteers “Blitzed” Gainesville, wrapping up the campaign. The Blitz is an effort to finalize the collections of pledges and contributions from area businesses. This week, volunteers will be "Blitzing" Muenster and during the next week there will be a "Blitz" event in Valley View.
