Early voting in the Nov. 6 general election begins today and spans weekdays through Friday, Nov. 2.
Officials have designated the first-floor commissioners courtoom of the Cooke County courthouse for local early voting. During the 11-day voting timeframe, participants can visit the courtroom between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Cooke County Tax Assessor-Collector Billie Jean Knight is also serving as the county’s voter registrar during this election year. Texas Secretary of State Hope Andrade announced Friday in a media release that Texas reached a record number of registered voters.
As of Friday, she explained, Texas has 13,646,226 registered voters; the highest number in state history.
“I want to thank all Texans who registered to vote this year and all Texans who are already registered voters,” she said. “The next step is getting to the polls during early voting or on election day.”
The previous record number of registered voters was 13,575,062 set for the November 2008 general election.
“With early voting beginning Oct. 22, now is a perfect time for Texans to begin preparing to cast their ballot,” Andrade said. “Now’s the time to verify your voter registration status, locate your registration certificate, make sure it’s signed, verify where your county’s polling places are, review what’s on your ballot and make plans to go vote.”

On Election Day
Voters will vote in ther designated precinct between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2012. A sample ballot and official list of voting locations is also posted on the Cooke County website, www.co.cooke.tx.us.
On election day, voters can participate at these following locations for the corresponding precincts:
Precincts 1, 3, 5 and 31 — North Central Texas College Library lyceum, 1525 W. California St. in Gainesville.
Precincts 2, 30, 34 and 35 — First Christian Church, 401 N. Dixon St. in Gainesville.
Precincts 4, 26 and 37 — Hillcrest Church of Christ, 1712 O’Neal St. in Gainesville.
Precincts 6 and 9 — Callisburg Community Center, 92 McDaniel St. in Whitesboro.
Precincts 7 and 28 — Tabernacle Baptist Church, 305 County Road 194.
Precinct 8 — Callisburg Elementary School, 648 FM 3164.
Precinct 10 — Mount Springs Community Center, 173 Mount Springs Lane in Valley View.
Precinct 11 — First Baptist Church activities building, 504 N. Lee St. in Valley View.
Precinct 12 and 14 — Era Community Center, 102 Malone St. in Era.
Precinct 15 — Myra Baptist Church, 218 Bradford St. in Myra.
Precinct 17 — Muenster VFW, 136 Ash St. in Muenster.
Precinct 18 — First Baptist Church, 121 N. Pecan St. in Muenster.
Precincts 19 and 21 — Conrad Hall, 504 W. 4th St. in Lindsay.
Precincts 20, 24, 25 and 27 — East Side Church of Nazarene, 1415 S. Radio Hill Road in Gainesville.
Precinct 22 — Lake Kiowa Lodge, 905 W. Kiowa Drive in Lake Kiowa.
Precincts 33 — Moss Lake Fire Station, 160 Spur 1201 in Gainesville.
