Garland —
The Sacred Heart Machinators won second place Saturday, Nov. 10 at the 2012 Texas BEST (Boosting Engineering, Science and Technology) Regional Robotics Game Championship held at the Garland Special Events Center. The Machinators competed against 60 other teams from across Texas, New Mexico and Arizona.
During the competition, the Machinators advanced from the qualifying rounds into the semi-final round. In the semi-finals, they had very successful runs and was one of only four teams to advance into the Championship Round.
The Machinators finished in second place in the Texas BEST Robotics Game Championship with their robot.
The Machinators were also awarded the “Most Robust” Award. This award is given to the team whose robot is well built, performs efficiently, and requires few repairs. The Sacred Heart Machinators would like to thank all the people who came out to support them this year as fans, sponsors, and mentors.
Students involved in BEST use common items including plywood, PVC pipe, screws and other hardware, a BRAIN (BEST Robotics Advanced Instruction Node programmable platform), and a micro-energy chain system to design and build a functioning machine that can perform certain, specific tasks in three minutes. The students have six weeks to build their robots.
Students in middle and high school are eligible for the robotics competition.
The BEST mission is to engage and excite students about engineering, science, and technology and to inspire them to pursue careers in these fields.
