Callisburg —
Members of Callisburg Volunteer Fire Department plan to mark the eleventh anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks with a rememberance ceremony and celebration Saturday at Callisburg’s Volunteer Fire Department at 116 McDaniel St. in Callisburg.
The event will include a first responder procession down U.S. Highway 82 and Highway 371 to the Callisburg fire station. Participating emergency services workers will meet at Shooter’s parking lot on Highway 82 at 9 a.m. Events at the station will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. and will include a “light ‘em up” ceremony, prayer and a moment of silence followed by an appreciation ceremony for all area emergency personnel and past and present military service members. Cake and punch will be served.
Callisburg residents will host a citywide garage sale after fire department ceremonies.
This is Callisburg Volunteer Fire Department’s second year to hold a ceremony to remember Americans who died in the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. For information call Carla Rickert at (940) 284-4558 or visit her Facebook page.

National Transportation Safety Board considers lowering blood alcohol levels for drivers
Members of Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) have announced new recommendations in their continued quest to end drunk driving.
During the upcoming Memorial Day weekend, alcohol is a common theme in many celebratory activities throughout the nation and state, and, therefore, many Texans unnecessarily die in vehicular accidents involving alcohol-impaired drivers.
This past week, National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) officials announced several new recommendations relating to drunk driving, including lowering the national blood alcohol content (BAC) standard from .08 to .05. -
