Summer meal program gears up

Gainesville — Area children are eligible to receive breakfast and lunch as part of the Summer Feed 2013 program sponsored by the Gainesville Independent School District (GISD).

Meals will not be allowed off site and the locations are open Monday through Friday at the following locations: The Cooke County Boys and Girls Club (June 11-July 19, closed July1-5) will serve breakfast 8:30 a.m.-9 a.m. and lunch served 11:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m; Gainesville Middle School (June 10-July 3) will serve breakfast 7:45 a.m. to 8:15 a.m. and lunch served 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.; Edison Elementary (June 10-July 19, closed July 4-5) will serve breakfast 7:30 a.m. to 8 a.m. and lunch served 11a.m.-12:45 p.m.

The program has helped many children over the years, officials say.

“The Summer Feed program is funded through the state. In 2012 over 300 children who may otherwise have gone hungry received nutritious meals,” Gainesville ISD Food Service Administrative assistant Robin Sorrel said.
