Two suspects sit in Cooke County Justice Center following arrests in connection with the Sept. 8 homicide of Alberto Gonzalez, 44.
Gainesville Police Officer Public Information Officer Belva McClinton reported that Fabian Cervantez, 30, was arrested Friday evening in the 2600 block of East Highway 82, and Marcy Leigh Hunt, 38, was arrested the following evening at a residence on Cou.nty Road 239.
As reported on Sept. 10, Gonzalez was apparently beaten to death on Sunday, Sept. 8, inside a house at 719 N. Taylor St. in Gainesville — a rental house he reportedly owned and was remodeling at the time of the attack.
McClinton said Cervantez and Hunt are now in custody though they haven’t been formally charged and inquiries continue.
“The investigation is not finalized and I don’t yet know what that entails, if they’re just speaking to the two who were arrested or that there were other people involved,” she said.
On Sept. 10, Pct. 1 Justice of the Peace Dorthy Lewis said she visited the Taylor Street scene in the early hours of Sept. 9, to pronounce Gonzalez dead, and saw evidence of bludgeoning that was later confirmed by Dallas medical examiners.
“It appears to be that he was beaten,” Lewis said. “He was young and he was working there. There was no motive or any obvious reason — but the police are just going to have to work on it and find out.”
