A local holiday outreach program now in its second year combines gift donations with a fitness theme.
“Sweaty Santa,” presented by Bosco’s Gym in Gainesville, began as a way to encourage community support during the Christmas season. Visitors bring unwrapped toys as admission fees to various “mini-workout” programs available at the gym during the day of the event.
This year, activities are set for 8 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, at the gym, 517 E. Broadway St. Childcare will be provided free of charge.
Through this holiday event, Bosco’s staff members donate toys to Cooke County’s “Littlest Angel” program by way of the Boys and Girls club. During the first year of “Sweaty Santa,” more than 60 toys and $200 were donated. This year, however, the event has sponsorship from Petroflex, WW Howeth Title Company, Advanced Pedestals, Hess & Rohmer PC and Edward Jones — and the 2012 toy donation goal is 100 toys. To attend the “Sweaty Santa” classes, participants are asked to bring new, unwrapped toys for donation. Following this, participants can participate in as many of the day’s classes as desired, no gym membership necessary.
“Sweaty Santa” classes include:
8 a.m. — “Jingle Bell Beat Down,” instructed by Corey Hardin
8:30 a.m. — “Merry Mix-Up,” instructed by Rachel Nolan
9 a.m. — “Tinseltown Turbo Kick,” instructed by Kristen Johnson
9:30 a.m. — “Yuletide Yoga,” instructed by Candy Stephens
10 a.m. — “Frosty Abs,” instructed by Sarah Galvan
Those who would like to donate a toy but are not able to attend the classes on Dec. 8, are free to drop off a toy at the gym any time between Dec. 2-12.
