Cooke County —
Texas Comptroller Susan Combs reported Wednesday that state sales tax revenue in November was $2.34 billion, up 13.1 percent compared to November 2011.
The resulting state allocations include a payment of $686,675 for Cooke County.
“Gains across major sectors boosted state sales tax revenue,” Combs said in a media release. “Collections were strong in sectors such as retail trade, manufacturing, oil and natural gas, construction and telecommunications.”
The latest allocation totals for Cooke County cities are lower for some of its cities than in December 2011. But in November, Gainesville Economic Development Corporation Executive Director Kent Sharp said this drop is to be expected, given the uncommonly high monthly revenue and allocation totals of the past 18 months.
“When you’re having meteoric increases like we had last year, there will probably be several months this year where we have decreases,” he said, adding later that nearly every month during 2011 provided “a record” allocation amount for the city of Gainesville. “If you compare us to the years of 2008 and 2009, you’re still going to see huge increases. The year 2011 was a world-class year. There was no town that came anywhere close to that for a year-to-year increase. We’re still in the upper echelon.”
The local allocation breakdown follows: Gainesvile will receive $632,457, a 37 percent decrease against December 2011; Lindsay will receive $7,380, a 6.5 percent decrease; Muenster will receive 430,878, a 3.89 percent increase; Oak Ridge will receive $6,425, a 15 percent increase; and Valley View will receive 49,533, a 10 percent increase.
Combs will send December local sales tax allocations totaling $552 million to cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose taxing districts, up 15.5 percent compared to December 2011.
The sales tax figures represent October sales reported by monthly tax filers.
