Callisburg —
A new policy in which Callisburg ISD parents must remain in their vehicles to drop off and pick up students will remain in effect, said Superintendent Charles Holloway.
“The main concern here is safety,” he said.
Holloway said during Tuesday’s board meeting, a few parents and at least one teacher expressed their concerns about the policy.
Some parents were upset by the amount of time it takes to get through the drop off line — anywhere from 10 to 45 minutes during the first few days. Other parents were upset they were no longer permitted to escort their children in and out of the building.
Traffic is also a concern.
Holloway said the district is looking to alleviate that problem by adding additional driveway space at Callisburg Elementary, which would prevent cars from clogging FM 3164 while they wait to drop off or pick up students.
Holloway added traffic is down from the first few days the policy was implemented as more students now take the bus, and the designated pick up spot for some grade levels have been switched to the back of the building.
