ROUND ROCK — The Valley View boys cross country team took third place at the UIL Class 1A State Cross Country Championships at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock on Saturday.
Led by Gonzalito Dominguez’s fifth place finish, the Eagles improved upon an eighth place finish at state a year ago to take the bronze this time around.
Dominguez was the lone Eagle to medal, finishing in a time of 17 minutes, 22.81 seconds in the 5-kilometer race. Hunter Barnes was 16th overall at 17:41.56.
Lindsay’s Lauren Gibbs and Megan Holt were fourth and fifth respectively in the Class 1A girls race. Gibbs took fourth with a time of 12 minutes, 9.84 seconds in the two-mile race while Holt finished at 12:13.93.
Valley View’s Kayley Calhoun also came home with a medal with an eighth place finish at 12:19.59.
The Valley View boys finished with a combined team score of 113. Forsan won the meet with a score of 68.
Micah Davidson and Joe Don Pembroke finished 22nd and 35th respectively for the Eagles. Kollin Meyer was 53rd, Austin Collett was 78th and Paril Bhakta was 82nd.
Lindsay’s John Price and Travis Block finished back-to-back for the Knights in the boys Class 1A race. Price finished 40th at 18:23.08 while Block was 41st at 18:23.36.
