edges S&S
The Callisburg Lady Cats, led by the trio of guards Erika Goode, Calli Byrom and Madison Reed defeated the S & S Lady Rams 54-49 in a hard fought district contest Tuesday night.
The Lady Cats ran out to a 19-13 lead by hitting five three-point buckets, causing S & S to shift from the zone defense to a man-to-man defense. From there, the foul situation helped the Lady Rams stay close, as three key Callisburg starters had two fouls in the first half. S & S came within one point in the third quarter while post Amberly Colwell sat on the Lady Cat bench with four fouls. In the end, the Lady Cats were able to make enough shots and free throws to seal the five point victory.
"We could have blown them out if we had done better from the free throw line in the fourth quarter,” Callisburg coach Michael Wallace said. “We only hit 10 of 26 free throws in that quarter and that is what kept the score close. But we have had an emotional last couple of weeks and I am just proud that the girls came through and won the game".
