GIRLS HOOPS: No. 3 Krum too much for Gainesville

KRUM — Ariannah Kemp scored 16 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in a 53-31 Gainesville loss to Krum on Friday.

The Lady Cats outscored Gainesville 31-19 in the second half as they completed a succesful undefeated run through District 9-3A with the win.

Julia Schmaltz had 19 points for the No. 3 state-ranked Lady Cats (24-5, 8-0). Rachel Wallace had 18 points.

Hali Smith had six points for Gainesville (20-10, 4-3). Brittany Royal had five points and Chandler Kemp chipped in four points.

Gainesville began the game on a 7-1 run, capped off by a 3-pointer from Royal.

Krum would call a timeout to try to cool down the Lady Leopards. The Lady Cats would come out of the timeout with a 12-0 run to answer and never relinquish the lead from there.

Despite the loss, Gainesville can still take the second seed in District 9-3A with a win over Bridgeport at home on Tuesday.
