FOOTBALL: Lindsay, Valley View headline All-District 7-1A Division I teams

LINDSAY — The All-District 7-1A Division I teams were released on Thursday and Cooke County was well represented.

Both Lindsay and Valley View -- the top two teams in the district -- raked in the honors after the two squads had outstanding seasons.

Collinsville’s John Lewis took the top honors, garnering the district’s Most Valuable Player award. The junior quarterback ran for 1,547 yards and 18 touchdowns while throwing for 731 yards.

Valley View linebacker Gabe Blankenau and running back Landon Boaz took the Defensive MVP and Offensive MVP awards respectively. The Eagles advanced to the Region II-1A Division I area playoffs this season.

Lindsay junior Austin Bird was named the league’s Newcomer of the Year. Bird played wide receiver and defensive back for the Knights.

Lindsay also took the Coaching Staff of the Year award. The Knights went undefeated through district play on their way to a Region II-1A Division I semifinal berth.

The Knights placed 13 players on the first-team all-district list -- the most of any school in the league. Valley View had eight.

Earning first-team honors from Lindsay include Austin Bird (WR), Cody Thurman (WR), Dylan Hughes (OL, DL), Trevor Debore (OL), Blake Walker (RB), John Haverkamp (QB, K), Tanner Kuhn (DL), Daryl Block (LB), Elijah Walker (LB), Justin Ott (DB) and Hud Harrison (DB).

Receiving first-team honors from Valley View include Hunter French (WR), Taylor Ward (OL), Colton Bryant (OL), Gabe Blankenau (RB), Tyler Dial (DL), Hunter French (LB), Jason Kelsey (DB) and Uriel Aguillon (DE).

Second-team honors for Lindsay were Chisam Reiter (WR), Adam Boles (OL), Travis Krahl (OL), Hud Harrison (RB), Neely Rose (DL) and Cody Thurman (LB).

Second-team honors from Valley View include Charles King (DL), Landon Boaz (DB), Scott Prescher (WR), Ryan Scoggin (OL), Ethan McCollum (QB).

Honorable mentions from Lindsay were Conner Pelzel (OL), Nick Rose (DL), Caleb Anderle (DL) and Mark Krahl (RB).

Honorable mentions from Valley View were Austin French (RB, DE), Charles King (OL), Josh Bridges (TE), Kaleb Moses (LB) and Scott Prescher (DB).
