Tigers overwhelm Hornets with strong rushing attack

Staff Report

Gainesville — With 11 minutes left in the second quarter, Sacred Heart led Era by just one point.

It was the game’s next 35 minutes, where the Tigers outscored the Hornets 25-6, that defined local rivals’ matchup Friday.

Sacred Heart (2-2) used 293 team rushing yards and two touchdown passes from Kason Reeves to run away with its second win of the season, beating the Hornets (2-3) 32-12 at home.

“Sacred Heart is just a really good football team. Their kicking game got us in a lot of trouble, field position played a huge role,” Hornets coach Matt Fanning said. “We spent too much time working out of our own endzone while allowing them to return the ball to the 40 yard line.”

Reeves threw a 40-yard touchdown pass to Keith Metzler and a 16-yard score to Hayden Schilling en route to a 17-6 halftime lead, and the Tigers never looked back.

Metzler led the SHHS rushing attack with 140 yards on the ground, while Isac Walterscheid and Tyler Spruill helped the Tigers extend their lead with second half touchdowns.

Era is on a bye while SHHS will  face Temple  Christian next Friday.
