Gainesville — The Valley View boys and girls basketball teams finished on the wrong side of their first round matchups with Trinity Valley Thursday, as the Eagles and Lady Eagles each fell to TVHS in their openers at the annual Holiday Classic at NCTC.
After struggling early on offense, the Lady Eagles improved in the second half, but it was not enough in its 48-34 opening round loss to the Lady Trojans.
VVHS scored just two baskets in the first half – a putback off a lay up from senior guard Erika Sappington and a jumper from junior forward Jordan Dowd – and trailed 26-4 at the break.
The VVHS boys team lost its game to Trinity Valley 55-40 after falling behind 20-13 at halftime. Senior forward Kollin Meyer scored early and often in the loss, leading all players with 24 points.
