Lindsay —
With another year of academic and athletic success the Lindsay Knights
found themselves again on top of the UIL’s Class A race for the Lone
Star Cup. It is Lindsay’s sixth Lone Star Cup overall which is the
most wins by any school in Class A, and they are only three behind
overall leader Highland Park.
The Knights and Lady Knights used state runner-up finishes in
academics and girls track and field to help vault them to a 66 point
total, taking the tiebreaker over Shiner. Lindsay also used lengthy
playoff runs in volleyball, softball, football and girl’s basketball
to help capture the win.
Muenster was the only other area school to finish in the top ten,
placing tenth in the Class A standings with 40 overall points.
After state championship victories in academics and boys basketball,
along with a state runner-up finish in football and as the reigning 3A
marching band state champs the Argyle Eagles claimed their third Lone
Star Cup. Argyle joined Southlake Carroll as the only other school to
win the honor in multiple classifications. The Eagles also were
champions in 2006 in 2A and 2009 in 3A.
Southlake Carroll captured their third cup taking Class 5A while Lake
Travis High School won their first ever Lone Star Cup capturing Class
4A. White Oak High School, also a first time winner, picked up the win
in Class 2A.
The UIL Lone Star Cup recognizes the five high schools, one in each
classification, based on their overall achievement in a variety of
sanctioned athletic and academic championships. All UIL member high
schools in good standing are included for contention for the UIL Lone
Star Cup.
The UIL Lone Star Cup program began during the 1997-1998 season.
