GAINESVILLE — Lindsay fell a little short of winning its seventh Lone Star Cup, finishing third in the Class 1A standings released on Monday.
The Knights and Lady Knights finished behind Weimar and Shiner with a school total of 52 - champion Weimar posted 78 points.
The Lone Star Cup is a competition that determines the most successful school in all UIL events - both sports and academic competition.
Schools receive points based on district championships, playoff wins and state appearances.
Prior to this year, Lindsay had won six Lone Star Cups and two in a row. Lindsay had won six of the last seven Class 1A Lone Star Cups.
Argyle won the Class 3A Lone Star Cup. Decatur, a District 9-3A rival of Gainesville, finished tied for ninth.
Other winners include Salado (2A), Cedar Park (4A) and Southlake Carroll (5A).
Denton Guyer finished tied for fifth in Class 4A.
