BOYS HOOPS: Gainesville wins Red River Showcase

GAINESVILLE — The Gainesville Leopards boys basketball team went 8-1 and claimed the championship of the Red River Showcase team camp held this past weekend at Gainesville High School.

Gainesville was a perfect 5-0 in pool play on Friday and Saturday. On Friday they beat Valley View 54-36, beat Fort Worth Trinity Valley 42-30 and beat Pilot Point 39-32. Then on Saturday, the Leopards beat Callisburg 46-37 and beat Sanger 40-38 to claim the No. 1 seed in bracket play and a first-round bye.

In bracket play, the Leopards beat Pilot Point 42-27 before falling to Sanger 32-25. But Gainesville responded with a 29-20 win over Pilot Point to force a rematch with Sanger in the championship game. In the finals, the Leopards pulled out a 39-32 victory to take first place.

Sanger finished as runners-up with a 6-3 record. Pilot Point was third.

In bracket play, Pilot Point def. Callisburg 38-35, Sanger def. Valley View 64-31, Sanger def. Trinity Valley 42-38, Pilot Point def. Valley View 43-18, Trinity Valley def. Callisburg 42-21, Pilot Point def. Trinity Valley 34-28.
