FOOTBALL ROUNDUP: Gainesville explodes past Burkburnett 52-21

BURKBURNETT — Gainesville flashed the same firepower it showed in its scrimmages in its season opener at Burkburnett on Friday night.

The Leopards exploded for a 52-21 win over Burkburnett, outgaining the Bulldogs 538 yards to 239 in the process.

Leopard running back Adam Berryman had 157 yards on 20 carries including two touchdowns.

A 75-yard touchdown run from Denzel Johnson pushed the Leopards lead to 38-0 as Gainesville cruised to the victory.

Johnson finished 5 of 10 passing for 107 yards, including a 34-yard touchdown pass to David Moore. The senior quarterback also added 80 yards on the ground.

Jonathan Mendez had a 66-yard touchdown run for the Leopards and Demarius Farr had a 74-yard touchdown run.

Lindsay 49, Howe 13

Blake Walker had more than 200 yards rushing as Lindsay rolled past Howe 49-13 on the road.

The Knights will play host to Pilot Point at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Muenster 24, Ponder 13

The Hornets hung on against Ponder 24-13.

Muenster will travel to play Nocona at 7:30 p.m. Friday night.

Sacred Heart 21, Collinsville 14

The Sacred Heart Tigers found the win column in their season opener with a 21-14 win over Collinsville.

The Tigers saw Juan Salinas score twice and Keith Metzler add another on the way to victory.

Sacred Heart will travel to play Colleyville Covenant at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Callisburg 28, Henrietta 0

Clay McKenzie ran for 163 yards and two touchdowns as Callisburg rolled past Henrietta 28-0 in its season opener.

Dakota Tinney added a 17-yard touchdown run and Neal Shaffer chipped in a 2-yard touchdown run as the Wildcats made short work of Henrietta.

Callisburg will travel to play Valley View at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
