Leopards ready to run

Gainesville —

Gainesville High School has announced that cross country workouts will begin on Monday, Aug. 9. The first workout will start at 7 a.m. at the Leopard Stadium track. That is the new athletic facility at the high school. Athletes interested in running cross country at GHS must have a physical turned in to practice. Coach Jeff Gerken says that runners should be running now. He says the loop around the school has been mowed so runners can practice there.   For the second consecutive year the Gainesville Leopards are heading to the postseason. Gainesville (21-8, 6-2) dismantled Aubrey Tuesday, 72-44, to clinch their spot in the playoffs.

• Lady Leopards wrap up regular season with win

  The Gainesville Lady Leopards will head to the postseason on a winning note after disposing of Aubrey, 37-31 Tuesday.
  After dropping their previous two games against Argyle and Sanger, the Lady Leopards picked up a much needed win against the Lady Chaparrals to wrap up the regular season.

• Knights of Columbus free throw winners

  The Knights of Columbus held their district free throw contest Feb. 5 in Lindsay.  The winners will advance to the Diocese/Regional round of the free throw competition.

• Tigerettes try to get back on top

  With Tuesday’s win over Denton Calvary the Sacred Heart Tigerettes forced a one game playoff to decide the district crown.
  Thursday night will decide the district bragging rights with Sacred Heart taking on the Texoma Christian Lady Eagles, at Whitesboro High School. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.

  The Sacred Heart Tigerettes slipped past Denton Calvary Friday, 46-38. Sacred Heart needed to defeat Denton Calvary to force a playoff with Texoma Christian for the No. 1 seed in district.

  The Lindsay Knights went almost eight minutes without a point during a stretch of the second and third periods as Muenster went on a 20-0 run, helping the Hornets take a 53-44 victory that put a severe pinch in the Knights' playoff hopes.

• Lady Hornets clinch district title

  The Lindsay Lady Knights gave No. 3 ranked Muenster all they could handle Friday, but in the end Muenster's Lana Heers sank two free throws with five seconds remaining to lift the Lady Hornets to a 44-41 win and fourth straight district title.

• Sanger takes care of Lady Leopards

  The playoff bound Gainesville Lady Leopards assured themselves of a third place finish in District 9-3A Friday with a 46-40 loss to the Sanger Lady Indians. Sanger (7-1 district)made the shots they needed to down the stretch to pull away for the victory.

  While the Sanger Indians were busy celebrating Friday, David Moore was winning the game for Gainesville. Moore’s layup with four seconds left gave the Gainesville Leopards a thrilling 47-45 win over the Sanger Indians.
