AUSTIN — Cole Walterscheid made a habit of terrorizing opposing offenses this season. On Monday he was rewarded for it.
The Muenster junior defensive lineman was named first-team all state on the 2012 Texas Associated Press Sports Editors Class 1A all-state football team.
Walterscheid collected 52 tackles on the year, seven of which were sacks during the regular season. He also added four blocked kicks, four pass break-ups and two interceptions.
Muenster finished the year 9-4, advancing to the regional playoffs before falling to Albany 31-14.
In addition to Walterscheid, Hornet kicker Hunter Klement was also named all-state, though as a second-teamer.
Valley View’s Hunter French was named second-team all-state as a punter.
Eagle running back Landon Boaz was named honorable mention all-state as was linebacker Gabe Blankenau as the two helped Valley View to the area playoffs.
Muenster’s linebacker Andy Flusche was named honorable mention all-state as well.
The Class 2A all-state teams were released on Monday, though no Cooke County athlete made the list. Class 3A is set to be released today.
