The regional cross country is still a month away, but three local teams got the chance to run the course where it will be hosted this past weekend.
Runners from Lindsay, Valley View and Muenster hit the ground running Saturday at the Gerald Richey XC Invitational at Vandergriff Park, hosted by the University of Texas at Arlington.
Lindsay star runner Lauren Gibbs made the most of the opportunity in the girls race, finishing the two mile course in 11:48 to finish in first place out of 205 runners. Gibbs finished seven seconds in front of the next runner.
Kayley Calhoun also represented Cooke County well, taking eleventh place with a time of 12:26.
In the boys race, Valley View’s Hunter Barnes led local runners with an eleventh place finish with a time of 17:56. Barnes’ efforts helped the Eagles notch a third place finish. Lindsay’s John Price also earned a Top 15 finish out of a 207-person field, finishing in 18:12.
Muenster was led by Trevor Cheaney, who finished in 69th place and Allie Walterscheid, who took 82nd.
Local teams won’t have to leave Cooke County to compete this weekend, with LHS hosting the Lindsay Cross Country Invitational.
