Playoff exit

Wolfe City takes deciding game three, 5-1 to put an end to the Knights season

Sherman — The Wolf City Wolves got all the runs they needed in the

first two innings of game three Saturday of their bi-district playoff

series against the Lindsay Knights. The Wolves ended the Knights

season with a 5-1 victory taking the best of three series, 2-1.

After the first batter was out in the bottom of the first, the next

three came around to score for Wolfe City capped off by a RBI single

from Cody Horton to give the Wolves an early 3-0 lead against starting

pitcher John Haverkamp.

The Knights would battle back in the top of the second when Tanner

Kuhn doubled and later came around to score to make the score 3-1 but

it would be the only run the Knights would plate. Wolfe City added to

their lead in the bottom of the second with a two out single Chaffin

Andrews and followed by a two run homerun from Zach Williams to put

the game and series away for the Wolves.

The Wolves will move on the area round of the playoffs next weekend

with the victory.

Dean Fleitman was dominant once again and the Knights pushed over just

enough runs to pull out the second game in the series earlier in the

day.

An infield fly by Tanner Kuhn is all the Knights needed to aside Wolfe

City, 2-1. Lindsay loaded the bases with nobody out in the bottom of

the fifth when the Wolves changed pitchers going with Thursday's

starter Zach Williams. Kuhn was the first batter he faced and got him

to pop up to shortstop, but the fielder let the ball drop and Garrett

Yancey darted home from third to give the Knights the winning run.

Yancey would scored both runs for Lindsay in the second game, scoring

the first run on a Dylan Hughes single in the first. Lindsay pitcher

Fleitman went the distance picking up the win, while striking out 11

and only allowing one unearned run.
