CROSS COUNTRY: Area runners excel at Decatur Reunion Run

DECATUR — Area runners had a strong showing at the Decatur Reunion Run cross country meet on Saturday.

In total, 12 Cooke County athletes finished with medals, spread over three divisions at the race held at Joe Wheeler Park in Decatur.

Two of the more impressive medalists at the meet came out from Lindsay. The duo of Lauren Gibbs and Megan Holt led Class 1A Lindsay as it ran to a fifth place team finish in the Class 4A-5A 5-kilometer race.

Gibbs edged Holt for fifth place individually with a time of 19 minutes 25.8 seconds. Holt, a sixth place finisher, crossed the finish line at 19:33.7.

Lindsay’s Scout Tatum came in 17th at 20:23.6. Frisco took first in the race followed by Ft. Worth Boswell, McKinney North and Denton Guyer respectively.

On the boys side Gainesville and Valley View owned the 1A-3A 5-kilometer race - the two teams combined to place six runners in the top 10.  Valley View took first in the team standings while Gainesville took second.

Valley View’s Gonzo Dominguez led the pack with a first place finish, clocking in at 16 minutes, 51.3 seconds. Teammate Hunter Barnes finished second at 17:02.6 while Micah Davidson was fourth at 17:23.5. Kollin Meyer was 12th and Joe Don Pembroke was 21st.

Gainesville’s Ismael Castaneda led the Leopard runners with a sixth place finish at 17:48.2. Cale Kennedy was eighth at 17:59.2 and Terry Hall was ninth at 18:01.3.

Lindsay’s John Price was third in the boys race at 17:09.5 and Travis Block was fifth at 17:35.9. Lindsay was fifth as a team.

Gainesville took third in the team standings on the girls side in the Class 1A-3A 2-mile run.

Raquel Elias led the way for the Lady Leopards with a ninth place finish at 13 minutes, 0.7 seconds. Kassandra Najera was 12th at 13:16.1, Jordan Garcia was 26th at 14:10.0, Janeth Perez was 28th at 14:12.7 and Chandler Kemp was 29th at 14:15.2.

Valley View was seventh in the team standings. Kayley Calhoun led the Lady Eagle runners with a bronze finish at 12:35.5.
