Lindsay —
For the fifth straight year Lindsay High School will be hosting the Texas 4000 cyclists. The Texas 4000 cyclists are a group of young people out of Austin riding from Texas to Alaska to raise
money for cancer research. Each rider must raise donations to qualify for the trip and go through a training routine in order to make the journey. The group contacts people along their routes to arrange for places to sleep and for meals. They have a limited amount of money that can go towards their expenses but their wish is for everything to be donated, thus more money they are able to raise for cancer research.
“I was contacted five years ago by the group in a last minute attempt to find a place to stay as one of their supporters was unable to put them up,” Lindsay High School principal Phillip Hall said. “Since then they contact me each year and I arrange for them to stay in the high
school gym so they have access to bathrooms, showers, laundry facilities and the internet.”
The cyclists will be arriving on Wednesday afternoon June 6 and will depart early morning on June 7. David and Shelli Fleitman for the third straight year have agreed to have the group come out to their place for the evening meal and we are looking for help with dinner as well as breakfast.
“This is a great opportunity for our community to reach out and show support for a group of young people that are giving of their time and energy for a great cause,” Shelli Fleitman said. “When we started this we thought we were helping out by hosting the meal, but quickly
learned that we were the ones receiving the reward for getting to meet these wonderful young people.”
For more information about the Texas 4000 group you may visit http://texas4000.org. The group also does presentations about Texas 4000 and their mission and will present that to any group or
organization. If you are interested in helping out with either the evening meal, the breakfast, giving financially to their cause or if you are interested in the group giving a presentation please contact Mr. Hall at (940) 668-8474, cell (940) 395-2879 or hall@lindsayisd.org or contact Shelli Fleitman at sdfleitman@att.net.
