Bonham —
It was an up hill climb for the Callisburg Wildcats on Friday night as they were defeated by the Bonham Purple Warriors 8-0 at Warrior Stadium.
The Wildcat offense had problems sustaining drives and their defense could not stop the Warrior rushing attack.
Out of the Wing-T Bonham dominated the time of possession and amassed 194 yards on the ground and 13 yards thru the air. Callisburg, coming off their most successful season in school history, has their work cut out for them this year in finding their new identity.
New quarterback Colton Holder led their attack along with running back Clay McKenzie and wide receiver Cory Harmon.
The trio had their flashes of success but had trouble with consistency.
The offense gained just three first downs in the contest and 81 total yards. The Wildcat defense played a much better second half limiting Bonham to only 64 total yards.
The only score in this contest came with 2:23 remaining in the first quarter on a 2-yard run by Erik Soto to cap a 63-yard drive in 11 plays.
The Warriors, coming of an 0-10 season and losing in zero week last year 42-12 to the Wildcats, get their first victory in head coach Dale Trompler’s second season.
They were lead by Soto with 96 yards rushing followed by Haggard with 68 yards on the ground.
The Wildcats were lead by Clay McKenzie with 26 yards on the ground and Cory Harmon with 28 yards receiving. Mackenzie’s punting was outstanding averaging 42 yards a kick.
The Wildcats take on Fort Worth All Saints next Friday night in Callisburg.

The Knights of Columbus held their district free throw contest Feb. 5 in Lindsay. The winners will advance to the Diocese/Regional round of the free throw competition.

Thursday night will decide the district bragging rights with Sacred Heart taking on the Texoma Christian Lady Eagles, at Whitesboro High School. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. -

The Sacred Heart Tigerettes slipped past Denton Calvary Friday, 46-38. Sacred Heart needed to defeat Denton Calvary to force a playoff with Texoma Christian for the No. 1 seed in district.

The Lindsay Knights went almost eight minutes without a point during a stretch of the second and third periods as Muenster went on a 20-0 run, helping the Hornets take a 53-44 victory that put a severe pinch in the Knights' playoff hopes.

The playoff bound Gainesville Lady Leopards assured themselves of a third place finish in District 9-3A Friday with a 46-40 loss to the Sanger Lady Indians. Sanger (7-1 district)made the shots they needed to down the stretch to pull away for the victory.

While the Sanger Indians were busy celebrating Friday, David Moore was winning the game for Gainesville. Moore’s layup with four seconds left gave the Gainesville Leopards a thrilling 47-45 win over the Sanger Indians.
