GAINESVILLE — Jordan Garcia and Whytneigh Duffie both scored goals in double overtime to give Gainesville a 3-1 win over Mabank to take the inaugural Big Red Soccer Classic at Leopard Stadium on Saturday.
Garcia and Duffie broke a scoring drought that lasted through the first overtime period to give the Lady Leopards the championship trophy.
Gainesville (10-4) looked all but doomed heading into the final moments of the contest behind 1-0 before Maria Castillo gave the Lady Leopards life with a goal with 44 seconds remaining. The goal sent the game to overtime 1-1.
Duffie and Amanda Eddowes were both named to the all-tournament team with Eddowes being named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.
Gainesville will host Frisco Centennial at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday in its final non-district home game.
