Lindsay advances to regional round with win over Lady Pirates

Gainesville — The Lindsay volleyball took another step toward the ultimate goal of a state title Monday night, sweeping the Collinsville Lady Pirates 25-15, 25-23, 25-13 in the regional quarterfinals at the GHS Gymnasium.

LHS (34-7) will now face the winner of Kerens and Milano in the regional tournament at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Weatherford High School.

Lindsay had little trouble in the match’s opening set, jumping out to a 20-11 lead and hanging on to win 25-15. Bridget Anderle and Nicole Fleitman paced the LHS attack early, earning kills in the opening set.

The second set would not come as easy, with the Lady Pirates putting up their best effort of the night. CHS capitalized on a handful of Lady Knights errors, including a sideout and hitting a serve into their own net, and pulled ahead 9-3 early on.

But the Lady Knights would have the last laugh.

Lindsay stormed back, winning six straight points to tie the game at nine and claiming the lead for good after gaining a 16-15 edge.

LHS built on that momentum to gain a 23-19 lead and endured a 3-0 Collinsville run to win the second set 25-23.

From that point on it was all Lindsay, as the Lady Pirates couldn’t recover from the narrow loss. The Lady Knights cruised to a third set win, earning its largest margin of victory by beating CHS 25-13.

Fleitman turned in another strong performance, finishing with two aces, 26 kills, four blocks and 14 digs. Tara Atkins made her presence felt all over the court with eight aces, two blocks, two digs and 39 assists while Scout Tatum had eight digs. Anderle turned in one of her strongest performances of the year with three aces, 15 kills, two blocks and digs and Erin Early notched four kills and  12 digs.
