Howe —
The Gainesville Lady Leopards are now just one win away from matching their season total from all of last season after defeating the Howe Lady Bulldogs Tuesday 25-17, 25-13, 18-25, 25-18.
Howe got out to an early 14-10 lead, but the Lady Leopards fought back thanks to four service points from Baylee Mims to tie things up at 14-14. Gainesville outscored Howe the rest of the way 9-3 for the win.
In Game 2, Megan Carroll and Mims each had two aces apiece in the win. The Lady Leopards did not allow Howe to score more than two points in a row at any time during the second set.
After falling in the third set, Gainesville (5-8) got a boost from Marisol Chavez in Game 4 as she served nine points in a row at one point, including six aces.
“I am proud of the way we have been playing the past two weeks,” Gainesville coach Karla Henegar said. “We won three matches last week and are off to a good start this week. We have confidence heading into tournament play at Whitesboro Thursday. We have lacked confidence, but with those wins, the girls see that they can do it.”
Leading the way for Gainesville was Mims who tallied a whopping 18 kills in the match to go along with 16 digs, three aces and a block.
Taylor Murphy, who recently was moved to Libero to help out the Lady Leopards defense, had 20 digs and three aces.
Meanwhile, Chavez finished with 24 assists, six aces, five kills and a block, Megan Carroll scored four kills, four blocks, six aces and two digs, Skye Ferch had 12 digs, two kills and a block, Shelly Reynolds had 12 digs and three kills and Paola Vazquez finished with 15 digs and five kills.
Lady Eagles fall short in bid for first win
FORESTBURG — The Valley View Lady Eagles, while they haven’t played many varsity games yet this season, seem to be improving.
The Lady Eagles were just edged by the Forestburg Lady Horns Tuesday evening by the scores of 25-20, 25-17, 25-13.
Valley View (0-2) was led by Shelby Horne who finished with two kills and two blocks while Caly Wilson added two kills.
Also contributing were Callie Wilhite with eight assists, Jenna Snyder with two kills an assist and an ace, Shelbie Jackson and Dustie Powers each added a kill apiece, Brenda Pearce scored a kill and an ace, Alexis Greene notched four digs, Kyndl Hennen had three digs, Kelsey Fomby scored two digs and an ace and Ashley Day had one ace and one assist.
The Lady Eagles are in action again Friday when they travel to Tom Bean.
Start time for that match is at 5:30 p.m.
Gunter edges Lady Knights
LINDSAY — The Lindsay Lady Knights were defeated by the Gunter Lady Tigers on Tuesday by the scores of 21-25, 25-22, 25-8, 25-17.
Jordan Fleitman led the team with 11 kills, five digs, three blocks and three aces while Taylor Atkins had 10 digs, four kills and three aces. Lucinda Krahl finished with 13 assists, five digs, and two kills, Jalyn Anderle scored six kills and three blocks, Katie Arendt had 11 digs, Kendall McLeod scored 10 assists and two aces, Allison Metzler finished with five kills and Katie Nortman had nine digs.

For the second consecutive year the Gainesville Leopards are heading to the postseason. Gainesville (21-8, 6-2) dismantled Aubrey Tuesday, 72-44, to clinch their spot in the playoffs.

The Sacred Heart Tigerettes slipped past Denton Calvary Friday, 46-38. Sacred Heart needed to defeat Denton Calvary to force a playoff with Texoma Christian for the No. 1 seed in district.

The Lindsay Knights went almost eight minutes without a point during a stretch of the second and third periods as Muenster went on a 20-0 run, helping the Hornets take a 53-44 victory that put a severe pinch in the Knights' playoff hopes.

The playoff bound Gainesville Lady Leopards assured themselves of a third place finish in District 9-3A Friday with a 46-40 loss to the Sanger Lady Indians. Sanger (7-1 district)made the shots they needed to down the stretch to pull away for the victory.

While the Sanger Indians were busy celebrating Friday, David Moore was winning the game for Gainesville. Moore’s layup with four seconds left gave the Gainesville Leopards a thrilling 47-45 win over the Sanger Indians.
