ABILENE — The No. 7 state-ranked Muenster girls basketball team saw its season come to an end on Friday with a 42-30 Region II-1A semifinal loss to Goldthwaite on Friday.

The Lady Hornets  (29-6) were making their fifth consecutive trip to the regional tournament and had hopes of making the state tournament for the third time in four years.

Goldthwaite will play Triple-A Academy on Saturday in the finals.

Paige Herr led Muenster with 11 points. Lauren Rohmer added eight points.

The Lady Hornets had the lead only once in the game - 23-22 for seven seconds in the third quarter.

Goldthwaite opened up a 35-30 lead with 1:49 left in the game as the Lady Hornets tried for a last minute miracle.

Goldthwaite would have other plans though as Jayci Padgett would convert a three-point play with 1:23 left to go up 40-30.

A pair of free throws would add to the Goldthwaite lead in the final minute.
